The process to change derogatory place names in Shelburne County is entering its final stages.
Over the summer, the province asked for feedback on potential new names for Cape Negro, and the Island, Harbour and Point that bear the name.
Service Nova Scotia Minister and Argyle MLA Colton LeBlanc says many took part in consultation.
“We heard from more than 200 residents. I want to thank them for their feedback. Their feedback has been taken back to the department, along with African Nova Scotian Affairs,” says LeBlanc.
LeBlanc says a shortlist of potential new names has been developed, and there will be more opportunity this month for public consultation.
He says they’ll also be working with the municipalities and Shelburne MLA Nolan Young.
LeBlanc says the new place names will be announced early in 2022.
