UPDATE: There will be no school at Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School tomorrow.
There was a fire at Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School today.
Regional Executive Director of Education for the Tri-County Regional Centre for Education Dr. Chris Boulter confirms the fire took place in a downstairs student bathroom.
He says that the school was evacuated and no one was harmed. Fire crews also arrived on scene.
“The sprinklers worked as they should,” says Boulter. “We feel right now there is minimal damage to the building. The sprinklers went off so there’s some water and some smoke which will get cleared out.”
Students at YCMHS have been dismissed early and buses are picking up students according to the TCRCE.
They say this will cause bus delays for Elementary Schools today.
Boulter discussed tomorrow’s classes at YCMHS.
“We’re not certain about school tomorrow yet” says Boulter. “We hope to have it, but we are going to assess that as soon as we get the students home safely.”
