The Town of Yarmouth’s Backyard Fire By-law comes into effect later this month.
The by-law received final approval last week, and will allow property owners to have open fires in town.
There are a number of restrictions, including obtaining a $50 yearly permit to burn and an inspection of the property.
Mayor Pam Mood says this is something she’s heard about from residents since becoming mayor.
“There are rules and regulations in place for the health and safety of all of our residents. We are excited to give this a try. Hopefully, people will follow the rules and they understand what they can and can’t do, we can carry on with this and people can enjoy fires in their backyard,” says Mood.
Conditions also include hours for burning, the type of burning appliances allowed, the type of wood to be used, space requirements, and more.
The by-law takes effect on October 27th.
