It took 16 shootout attempts, but Ryan Semple of Lower Wedgeport finally ended it.
The Yarmouth Mariners won their third in a row, downing the Lumberjacks 4-3 in an eight round shootout at Mariners Centre last night.
Semple talks about his strategy.
“You’re just trying to end it at that point. A bunch of guys were trying moves, but I just wanted to end it with a shot. It ended up working,” says Semple.
Semple also scored in regulation, along with Reilly Mayne and Reid Vos in the back and forth contest.
Semple says moments like that are special.
“It’s just like a dream, growing up here and watching them play as a kid, to have that moment is crazy. We’re starting to gel here as a group, and we’ve got a great line-up. We’re going to be hard to beat this season.”
Christophe Beluse was in net for the win, making 32 saves and stopping all eight Lumberjack shootout attempts.
Cole Julian scored twice for South Shore, Eli Reimer had the other goal, with Jeremy Robar making 23 saves.
Attendance was 808.
The Mariners next play Grand Falls and Edmundston at home this weekend.
