A former paramedic turned MLA is pleased to see his PC government’s plan to improve ambulance wait times.
Argyle MLA Colton LeBlanc says the $3.1 million annual investment to speed up medical transfers will hopefully solve a long standing issue.
LeBlanc says there is tremendous pressure on our healthcare system.
“I’m very optimistic that addressing the transfer volume, which is significant in our province, about 200 calls a day that paramedics respond to, will be alleviated while we are able to address the other pressures in our system,” says LeBlanc.
28 new employees will be hired as ‘non-paramedic’ drivers to help improve wait and offload times for ambulances.
There have been several ‘Code Red’ alerts for a lack of ambulance coverage in certain regions of the province.
LeBlanc says Premier Houston and Health Minister Thompson’s recent tour of the province talking to healthcare workers had significant value.
“We feel the urgency as a government, but we want to re-assure those working on the front lines and those trying to access healthcare, that we hear you loud and clear.”
