A tough night on home ice Saturday for the Yarmouth Junior A Mariners.
Despite outshooting the South Shore Lumberjacks 47-27, the Mariners fell 6-1 in front of over 800 fans at the Fishtank.
Yarmouth got behind 3-0 after the first period and couldn’t find their way back.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron said after the game that it was just one of those nights.
“Their first goal didn’t go in, but it was called a goal. It was just a nightmarish start. Everything that could go wrong went wrong, I guess that’s the only way I can put it,” says Barron.
The team has one win through their first four games, and have lost three in a row.
Barron says they need to play a 60 minute game with intensity.
“We just need to play a full game. We’ve had some good spots, and then all of a sudden we fall asleep for a couple of seconds, and pucks find the back of the net. We have to be a little cleaner defensively, and we’ll have to score some ugly goals with a net-front presence. We need to simplify and do the little things well.”
The Mariners head to New Brunswick this week for games at Miramichi on Thursday and Campbellton Friday.
They’ll return home Sunday night to face South Shore once again.
