Mariners on Main has an official opening date.
The former YMCA building on Main Street in Yarmouth will re-open on Thursday, October 14th.
In an update, the Mariners Centre says new cardio equipment will arrive at Thanksgiving.
Members of the Yarmouth Whitecaps swim team have already been using the pool.
Mayor Pam Mood says this a tremendous step forward for the entire region.
“To have that building back open for the public, family, youth and seniors. It’s not just physical health, it’s mental health too, especially during COVID, everyone was feeling kind of trapped. It’s just great to have that facility open again,” says Mood.
She says the Mariners Centre and the three municipal partners will work together to make sure the building is accessible and affordable for everyone.
“That’s one thing that the entire team has said from day one. Not only physically accessible, but financially as well. We’ll work to make sure that the entire community can use the facility.”
There will be open house tours and come and play activities until October 17th, regular hours start the following day.
Mood says they still have their eye on expansion of the Mariners Centre in the future.
