The Tri-Counties have the lowest COVID-19 vaccination rates in the province.
According to the Nova Scotia’s COVID-19 dashboard, as of October 1st, 66 per cent of eligible citizens in the Yarmouth/Shelburne/Digby Community Health Network are fully vaccinated.
Seven per cent have received one dose.
Vaccination rates in every other health network are north of 70 per cent.
Yarmouth MLA and former Health Minister Zach Churchill says we can do better.
“There is a lot of misinformation out there. If you’re looking at anti-vaccination information, I’d encourage you to look at the science around vaccines,” says Churchill.
He says vaccinations work, and the fourth wave is feeding on unvaccinated people.
Churchill says the Liberal government set up a very successful vaccination program.
“Vaccines are available in just about every community through our pharmacies. People need to use that access and get vaccinated.”
Churchill says the current Progressive Conservative government needs to show leadership and do their part to help get the numbers up.
The province says 90 per cent of all COVID cases since March 15th have been among unvaccinated people, while only 3.8 per cent of cases were among those with two doses of the vaccine.
