A meeting on potential active transportation routes for the Lake Milo stretch.
The virtual session will take place Monday night, and the Municipality of Yarmouth is seeking public feedback on two design options for the route, which would go from the Lake Milo Boat Club to the Villa St. Joseph du Lac on Highway 1.
Councillor and project chairperson Loren Cushing says they decided last year in their strategic plan that it was time to start exploring options.
“To make it a walkway and cycle path, and make sure that vehicle traffic is aware of what’s going on. There are two design options to consider,” says Cushing.
He says the main difference between the options is either a four metre wide multi-use pathway with room for cyclists, or a three metre path with a widened road shoulder for cyclists.
Both options will be presented at the meeting, there’s a link to join on the Municipality’s Facebook page.
As far as funding goes, Cushing says he looked up a provincial program called the ‘Blue Route,’ which helps develop cycling trails in Nova Scotia.
“Hopefully they’ll participate in the funding for this project. So far, they’ve been very supportive with what we’re doing.”
Cushing says once an option is selected, a budget will be developed.
He adds, this has been a need in the area for years, and will improve safety on the busy road for recreation users.
