Junior C hockey returns to Barrington this weekend.
The Southwest Storm will play their home opener against Sackville on Saturday night at 7 p.m at the Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena.
It’s the first regular season Junior C game in Barrington since the Ice Dogs organization played in 2015.
Head Coach Andrew Holland says speed will be a big part of the team.
“We have a lot of speed up front with our forwards, and we’re going to try and incorporate a system where we have a lot of puck possession, and a lot of attacking with speed,” says Holland.
Holland says they have a solid defense core and two competent goalies that they’re putting a lot of faith in.
He says the return of Junior C to Barrington has been a long time coming.
“Some of the boys that I used to coach in minor hockey wanted to get a Junior C team back on the ice in Barrington. I know many have been wanting to see this for a long time. I’m just proud to be a part of the group that brought it back to the Barrington Arena.”
There are seven teams this season in the Nova Scotia Regional Junior Hockey League, and Holland says it will be a competitive season.
At Saturday night’s game, social distancing and COVID rules, including masking, will be in effect.
