A virtual conference on accessibility is being held tonight.
It will focus on how to make the Town of Yarmouth more accessible for everyone.
The development of an accessibility action plan by an advisory committee is already underway.
Town Development Officer Natalie Smith says there are a number of areas to focus on, including municipal buildings, public spaces, goods and services, communication, public transportation and applying for employment.
“Those areas create the action plan, of which then the accessibility committee will bring forth recommendations in each of those areas based on community consultation, the audits, and based on working with town staff back to council,” says Smith.
Chair of the town’s accessibility advisory committee Stephen Nicholl talks about what making things more accessible means.
“Improving any barriers that prohibit an individual from taking part in any service, walking on any sidewalk, or driving on any road,” says Nicholl.
Tonight’s conference will give the public an opportunity to share their thoughts.
It begins at 7 p.m, and you can find out how to join on our website.
