Another victory for Chris d’Entremont.
The Conservative won his second straight election in the riding of West Nova, defeating Alxys Chamberlain of the Liberals.
d’Entremont says the last two years of work, and 36 days of the campaign, have paid off.
“We traveled almost 8,000 kilometres from one end of West Nova to the other. It was great to touch base and see people again. It was a very positive campaign here in West Nova, and I’m happy the results have paid off,” says d’Entremont.
The final vote count has not been released yet, but d’Entremont took an early lead and never looked back.
As of right now, he has over half the popular vote with 21,180 ballots, Chamberlain sits in second with 17,793, Cheryl Burbidge of the NDP has 5,449 and Scott Spidle of the People’s Party of Canada with 2,398.
d’Entremont says the fishing dispute in St. Mary’s Bay is top of mind for many in this area.
“Down here, we hear a lot about the fishery, and how the government is going to react to the Indigenous fishery, and how the sides are all going to work together.”
He says he also heard a lot about affordable housing and healthcare on doorsteps.
d’Entremont says he respects his opponents, and hopes to work with them in the future on issues impacting the riding.
He was first elected in 2019, defeating Liberal Jason Deveau by just under 1,400 votes.
Voter turnout so far is just over 60 per cent, down from 68 per cent in 2019
