Mariners on Main will open its doors next month.
The former YMCA building on Main Street in Yarmouth is now being operated by the Mariners Centre.
The pool will be back up and running, and new fitness equipment has been ordered.
Mariners Centre General Manager Dorgam Hideib says the facility will open October 12th, after Thanksgiving weekend.
“It will be a soft opening, so we’ll have limited hours when we begin so we can get our legs underneath us. We’ll ramp up to full operating hours from there,” says Hideib.
Hideib says new lifeguards and other staff have been hired and are undergoing training.
He says there’s a lot of energy in the community about the facility.
“It was a very aggressive plan to be open this fall, and it’s still aggressive. We know we will be open in October. Will everything be finished? To be open, yes. But you’ll still see us working on things.”
Hideib says they’re hoping to have half of the new fitness equipment in place for opening.
Some open houses will be scheduled as well, with the public able to access the facility beginning October 4th for tours, and ‘come and play’ activities.
The Town and Municipality of Yarmouth and the Municipality of Argyle all made financial contributions to the project.
