Alma Square in downtown Yarmouth will be re-named after Jim MacLeod.
Council voted in favour of the name change at their Committee of the Whole meeting yesterday.
Mayor Pam Mood says it’s the perfect place to honour the long-time councillor and former deputy mayor, who passed away in June.
“He’s the one that put the mural on the wall there. He was a huge supporter of the arts, and the Art Gallery. Of course, the pharmacy is right there, and it’s on Main Street, where he walked everyday. It’s just the perfect place,” says Mood.
Mood says they’ll be working with the family on details, so everyone can remember MacLeod’s impact on the town.
“We will see how this will come out, and what it will look like, so that everyone can remember Jim in the very best way.”
She says they’d love to be able to have the name change done before winter.
