Demolition of a building on Main Street in Yarmouth may not happen until November.
A tender for the demolition of 303/305 Main Street, as well as the adjoining 307/309 Main has been issued by the town.
In June, council voted in favour of demolition, as inspectors had identified several issues, and called the structure a ‘construction safety disaster.’
Mayor Pam Mood tells us where the process currently stands.
“A pre-demolition survey is complete. A demolition tender has been issued, and a site visit with the bidders will happen in the next couple of weeks. They’ll get to take a look at the property and what’s there,” says Mood.
Mood says the demolition business is very busy right now, and that’s why it could be late into the fall before work starts.
She says experts have ensured that the neighbouring buildings are safe and secure.
“Our experts are doing what they do best, making sure the building itself and all the neighbouring structures are safe. The issue of safety is paramount and we want to make sure that is taken care of.”
The building owner had 30 days to begin the process, but that has not happened, so the town is taking over.
