A fourth consecutive term for Liberal Zach Churchill in Yarmouth.
He won the riding once again in last night’s provincial election, and will remain MLA, a position he’s held for 11 years.
For the first time since 2013, he’ll be a member of the opposition, as the Progressive Conservatives will form a majority government.
Churchill says he’s familiar with that role.
“We look forward to doing our part to hold them to account, and make sure they’re keeping their commitments to Nova Scotians, and to represent the interests of our constituents in the legislature,” says Churchill.
The race was his closest margin of victory, as he defeated PC Candice Clairmont by just under 1,500 votes.
He says the PC’s ran a good campaign provincially and locally.
“Candice and her team ran an exceptional campaign. They worked hard, and made us work harder. They should be very proud of what they accomplished. There was nothing but respect between our camps. We treated each other with kindness, these were clean campaigns.”
Churchill says he appreciates the support from the community and calls it the ‘honour of his life’ to represent the area once again in the legislature.
