Veterans who participated in United Nations and NATO missions will be honoured for National Peacekeeper Day, in Hebron.
A commemoration ceremony will take place at the Afghanistan Memorial, adjacent to Maple Grove Education Centre, on August 8th at 2 p.m..
Organizer and veteran, Andre Boudreau discussed the veterans who will be honoured at the start of the event.
“It’s because of the loss of life of nine peacekeepers in the middle east from a buffalo aircraft crash,” says Boudreau. “We want to also include people that have done NATO tours in Afghanistan and all of that. As part of National Peacekeeper day we incorporate all of that.”
Boudreau, discussed his involvement in UN missions.
“I did the UN tour in Egypt in 1975/76 which was a year or so after the buffalo aircraft got shot down by Syria,” says Boudreau. “This is to remember the people we’ve lost on those operations. We’ve lost quite a few soldiers.”
Veterans who attend will be given the opportunity to speak if they choose. COVID-19 rules will be in place.
Boudreau hopes that veterans of all ages will attend.
