A ceremony to honour Korean War veterans will take place this Saturday.
It’s being held at the Wedgeport Legion Branch 155 at 11 a.m.
It’s to commemorate the Korean War Armistice and the end of active fighting in 1953.
Wedgeport Legion President Clinton Saulnier says all the region’s vets will be honoured.
“There are 27 overall, five of them still living. There will be 13 Korean medals presented at the ceremony out of appreciation,” says Saulnier.
Saulnier says it’s important to recognize all veterans.
“World War I and II have always been done, Korea we started three years ago, and this summer we’re going to honour Japan vets. When I took over as President, I said we’d try and honour every veteran we can while they’re still here.”
There’s no more space, as due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 100 people can attend.
South-Korean born Sonia Park-Lawrence will read in Korean and English a message from the Ambassador of the Republic to Korea to Canada.
There will also be two towels in decorative packaging presented from the embassy to veterans and their families.
A wreath laying and reception will follow.
