Four new multi-use trails will be installed in the Town of Yarmouth.
The $2.36 million project announced this morning will see two new asphalt paths on Haley Road, and one on Starrs Road from Haley Road to Pleasant Street.
There will also be traffic light replacements and a sidewalk on Starrs Road.
All three levels of government are contributing to the project.
Yarmouth MLA Zach Churchill says this is important for accessibility and for health.
“This is important for our population from a health standpoint. It connects our community, and it helps us do our part to combat climate change as well,” said Churchill.
The two paths on Haley Road will extend from Parade Street to Starrs Road, and from Forest Street to Argyle Street. A four-way stop will also be installed by the town at the intersection of Haley and Parade streets.
Yarmouth town councillor Gil Dares says this will improve the quality of life for residents.
“When it’s all completed, it will link all parts of town into one transportation corridor, I think you’ll start to see the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and a lot of health benefits. There will be a lot of positive things to come from this,” said Dares.
The town says this will improve safety for seniors and high school students as well.
Work is expected to begin this fall and take two years to complete.
The federal government are investing $945,000, the province $790,000 and the town will give $630,000.
