The Town of Yarmouth now has a flag policy.
At last Thursday’s meeting, council approved the policy, which will help organize which groups can fly their flag in front of town hall on Main Street and Frost Park on Water Street.
Previously, the Mayor’s would use discretion on flags that could be raised.
Mayor Pam Mood says they’ve had a backlog of groups that want to fly their flag.
“Everybody can’t fly their flag at the same time, we have just one spot on Main Street. So we decided to come up with a policy that will help us manage the requests,” said Mood.
Groups can apply through the town.
Mood says groups promoting hate, politics or religion will not be permitted.
She says non-profit organizations with positive causes will be considered.
The policy also outlines the occurrences for flags that can be flown at half-mast.
