Billionaire Entrepreneur Richard Branson blast into space yesterday, along with five crewmates.
This is a part of his Virgin Galactic space tourism company, created in an effort to make space accessible to everyone.
While onboard the craft named Unity, 70-year-old Branson spoke to the next generation of dreamers, “I was once a child with a dream, looking up the the stars. Now, I’m an adult in a spaceship with lots of wonderful adults looking down at this beautiful, beautiful earth.”
The space portion of the flight was brief, lasting around 15 minutes as a rocket ship.
Virgin Galactic hopes to begin offering flights to paying customers next year at a cost of nearly $250, 000 each.
“Like most kids, I have dreamt of this moment since I was a kid. Honestly, nothing could prepare you for the view from space. The whole thing was just magical. We have this incredible earth. It is just unreal. We’re here to make space more accessible to all and we want to turn the next generation of dreamers into the astronauts of today and tomorrow,” Branson says.
