More permanent seats have been added for first-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing in Yarmouth.
The province says $49,400 will be invested annually to make sure the seats are no longer temporary.
There are now 33 permanent seats at Dalhousie University’s Yarmouth campus.
Health and Wellness Minister and Yarmouth MLA Zach Churchill says they’ve done well with retention of registered nurses.
“This is about training more, and assuring that we have greater access to primary care here in the province,” says Churchill.
The announcement is in addition to 62 first-year seats added at Cape Breton University.
Churchill says this is the largest increase in undergraduate nursing seats ever.
He says the Yarmouth branch attracts many quality nurses to the area, many of whom stay in the community.
