The provincial Progressive Conservative Party named Candice Clairmont as their candidate for Yarmouth for the next provincial election.
Clairmont, a licensed practical nurse, won the nomination earlier this week.
Her grandfather, Dr. Benoit Robichead, was the PC MLA for Yarmouth in the late 60s.
Clairmont says she is passionate about bringing better healthcare services to the region.
“A lot of things with healthcare, like cancer services, mental health, the lack of family doctors, I’m just like Tim Houston: It’s not politics, it’s personal. I want every Yarmouthian to have what they need for healthcare, and we’re not getting that right now,” says Clairmont.
She says she’s not your typical politician, and wants to bring a human touch to the role, and make Yarmouth a more positive place to live.
In a statement, Party Leader Tim Houston says he’s excited to welcome Clairmont to the team, as she joins many other healthcare professionals who know the system can be better.
Current MLA Zach Churchill was acclaimed last month as the Liberal candidate.
Speculation is heating up that a provincial election may be called soon.
