Acadia First Nation has announced that they will not be celebrating Canada Day this year.
They will walk in remembrance of the indigenous children who died in residential schools and for those who survived.
The peaceful walk will be in groups of 25. They will walk from the Band’s office to the RCMP’s grounds. There they will drum their honour song in solemnity before returning to the Rose Purdy Community Field.
There will also be a sacred fire, round circle and silent reflection.
Those who want to participate are asked to meet at the band office parking lot at 1 p.m.
