The Yarmouth Y Whitecaps received an award from Support 4 Sport.
The swim team were named the Sport Makes a Difference winners, as they persevered through the closure of the YMCA and the pandemic.
Head Coach Alix d’Entremont says it means a lot, because of what they’ve gone through.
“We went down from six days a week of training to two, and those days were in Clare. It means a lot to us, the kids were happy with it and it was motivating for them. A great way to go into next season for sure.”
She says the season began last August with training at Lake Milo, and membership fell from 30 to 16.
They then trained at Universite Sainte Anne, which was a long commute for many members.
d’Entremont says with the anticipated opening of Mariners on Main, she’s hoping numbers will rise again.
