Yarmouth town council are set to give out their annual grants to organizations.
At their Committee of the Whole meeting yesterday, council approved the nearly $39,000 budget for the grants.
Some of the larger grants include Seafest and the Yarmouth Golf and Country Club at $6,500 each, the Friends of the Yarmouth Light will receive $4,200, and the Firefighters Museum will get $4,170.
Mayor Pam Mood explains how the process works.
“Each council member and myself will choose the amount of money for each organization. It’s very difficult, because there are so many great groups out there that have tremendous value to the town. We put those numbers together, divide them by seven, and that’s what the organization gets,” said Mood.
She says events like Seafest are a main draw in the summer.
“It’s two weeks this year. It’s going to look different. This is probably one of the lowest numbers we’ve given them because many events will be virtual. The money will go where it’s needed, because they have to fundraise for everything.”
In all, 23 organizations received a grant.
