The families of Colton Cook and Zack Lefave have come together to raise awareness and call for justice.
A peaceful march took place today in Yarmouth. The group, which included friends and family, marched with signs from the Yarmouth Mall to the local MLA’s office and back.
“Let the public know that we haven’t forgot. Let them see the names out there, let them remember what happened out of this. Nothing’s happened out of this,” says volunteer and close friend of the Cook family James Deveau. “What’s going on here? We have a problem and it needs to be fixed. Our justice system is backwards as far as what most people can tell.
He says says the justice system is not keeping people safe. Zack Lefave’s cousin and family spokesperson Kimberly Morton says the town is in trouble.
“Kids are going missing, kids are murdered. For a small town it’s too much, there’s no need of it,” says Morton. “We know that somebody knows something about Zack and we need some information. For the Colton case, it’s been almost a year now and their trial’s barely started. Where’s the justice for these people?”
She added that more police resources are needed in the area.
The group plans to hold similar events in the future to make sure Cook and Lefave are not forgotten.
Cook’s remains were found on September 30th near the intersection of Saunders Road and Raynardton Road in South Ohio. The two men charged with second degree murder in relation to his death will return to court on July sixth for a focus hearing on those charges.
Lefave was last seen walking on Highway 334 in Plymouth on January first. He was last seen wearing a plaid shirt and boxers. He’s described as white with brown hair, blue eyes and brown facial hair.
