Do you deal with back problems?
I’ve had back issues for years now. I blame my Dad, as he had them too, and in the same place. For me it Sciatica – the nerve gets pinched, or irritated, or whatever, and I get pain in my lower back with shooting pain down my leg and numbness or tingling in my toes.
I’ve been fairly careful over the last few years and it has resulted in less trouble. But trouble still comes. And it can be anything – a sneeze has done it for me.
This past weekend we hosted my 2-year-old Granddaughter Clementine at home. That involved a lot of swinging her in the air, lots of play climbing over playground toys, and a drive to Bridgewater to get her back home.
I swear it was the drive that did it to me, because once I made it home I had trouble getting out of the car. Now it’s Wednesday, and although it has eased some, it pain is still there.
Now if you’re in pain, you should see a doctor and they’ll recommend treatment, and maybe even physical therapy.
I’ve learned a few things over the years about handling back pain.
First off, you are tempted to find a spot on the couch or in a chair that’s comfortable and just don’t move. Resist that temptation. Movement makes a big difference. Walk. Gently, but walk. It really helps.
When you find that comfortable spot, enjoy, but don’t stay put. Get up every 30-45 minutes and move around. Stretch a little. I should add that as I write this, I’m really bad at actually doing it. When I’m at work sitting in a desk chair the time can fly and I often forget. But do what you can..
There are stretches you can do as well. Again, being gentle is the key you can find exercises on the internet.
I’ve posted the ones I use.
