If you’re like me, you’ve been watching the Phases of reopening very closely since the announcement on May 28th. I’m curious to know when we will be allowed to gather with friends again, when travel will open up and so much more. And I feel for so many industries affected by the last lockdown. I’m ever hopeful that we’ll stick with the two week window and be back to somewhat of a normal summer in July.
In February I sat down with the Yarmouth Historical Society and the Yarmouth County Museum for The Weekender as they optimistically looked out at 2021. Plans were being made and staff and volunteers were engaged. It seemed so promising and as someone who has spent some time in the archives and at various museum events, I was excited for the spring and summer! When Wave Three hit, it effectively forced them the museum to pivot in a new direction if some of the early events were still to happen.
I had the chance to talk with Stacy MacIsaac yesterday as they launched the Online Art Auction. There are so many great pieces by local artists and since galleries and museums are still closed, moving the auction online has allowed this fundraiser to move forward.
If you love art and want to support local artists and the Yarmouth County Museum, here’s what you need to know:
When is the Art Auction Happening: The auction opened June 4 and runs until June 15 at 1pm.
Where can I see the Art: All the pieces are posted on the Yarmouth County Museum Facebook Page under the event 2nd Annual Online Art Auction. Be sure to click on “discussion” and you can read the rules and view/bid on the beautiful pieces.
How do I bid? Bidding can be done in the comments. Please be sure to read the auction rules, pinned to the top of the Facebook Event.
Who are some of the artists participating? Bill Curry, June White, Brenda Tate, Charline Burbine, David Gorman and more.
What if I don’t have Facebook? Those who wish to see the pieces that are up for bid will be able to contact Stacy, the event administrator, at ycmassistant@eastlink.ca or call (902)742-5539 and she will send you pictures/information of the pieces along with a bidding contract. Those who wish to bid can fill out the contract and send it back to Stacy and she will bid on your behalf. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact her.
I’ve already placed my bid on a piece (please don’t outbid me, lol!) I hope you’ll support this online event and of course, put the museum on your list to visit this summer!
