Work on the Parade Street sewer separation project in Yarmouth is underway.
It was one of the major items in the town’s capital budget for this year.
Mayor Pam Mood says combined rock sewer will be replaced with separate storm and sanitary lines.
“It reduces the load on the town’s treatment plant. The rain water will flow directly into the harbour, and that will cost us less, because it doesn’t have to go through the plant.”
The work is being done block-by-block, so the whole street won’t be closed as once, and sidewalks should mostly remain open.
Mood says as work progresses, residents will be notified of any closures.
Aberdeen Paving is carrying out the work, which is expected to last three months.
