An update from Nova Scotia Power on the Tusket Main Dam Refurbishment project.
A letter has gone out to residents around the Lake Vaughan Reservoir, Kings Lake and Gavels Lake, as well as elected officials.
The letter says the planning and regulatory permitting approval process is still underway, and it’s hoped construction will resume this summer.
Last fall, the project was deferred by NS Power to allow for continued planning.
In an email to our newsroom, NS Power Senior Communications Advisor Jacqueline Foster says the company wants to continue engaging the local community, Mi’kmaq and stakeholders.
The next step in the process would involve lowering the lakes to their natural level, and that could happen in mid-July, Foster says.
She adds property owners will be responsible for removing residential docks and pleasure craft from the water that could be impacted by the lowering.
This will allow for a dry construction area during the work, which could last as long as seven months.
