Chief Medical Officer of Health Doctor Robert Strang spoke to the Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce yesterday.
In a virtual meeting Strang took COVID-19 questions from the members and addressed the third wave.
He stressed the importance of following public health guidelines even if you live outside of Halifax.
“This is not just a Halifax issue. It’s quite likely that there is virus in communities outside of Halifax,” says Strang. “Even if there’s not, we need every Nova Scotian to know and understand that this is a provincial issue. We may or may not have virus in your community but you have to act like there is virus there.”
He emphasized the need to follow health protocols.
“Even if the virus does show itself in Yarmouth if everyone is following the protocols, and we have the restrictions, what that will do is prevent wide spread in the community,” says Strang. “If anybody’s thinking this is just a Halifax based issue and don’t have to worry about it because we’ve never had COVID-19 down in southwest Nova, you need to dissuade yourself of that right now.”
Srang added that people should expect the current lockdown to continue for more than two weeks.
