Many early childhood educators were caught off guard with last week’s update from the province.
That includes Krista Spinney with Le Jardin des Petits in Tusket.
Last Tuesday, the province announced schools would move to at-home learning, and childcare centres would remain open, creating confusion on expectations.
Spinney says she and her staff had no time to prepare.
“All the teachers in the school were given two days to prepare for online learning. We weren’t. 7:30 the following morning, we were open with no guidance.”
Spinney says they have accepted additional children of essential workers into the centre, and the province will provide PPE’s, but she wants to see updated guidelines.
She’d also like to see a priority placed on vaccines for ECE’s, as many in the industry don’t have health plans.
Spinney says they want to be treated like any other educator.
