An abandoned building in Yarmouth’s south-end was in flames this morning.
The Yarmouth fire department were called to the structure fire near the corner of Argyle and William Streets around 3:30 a.m.
At the scene, Yarmouth fire chief Mike Deveau talked about their response.
“Engine 2 quickly arrived on scene. They laid a line in to protect the exposures and start knocking down some of the fire that they could from the exterior. Then volunteers supplemented with another engine and our rescue vehicle.”
The Port Maitland fire department also responded.
The building was knocked down for safety reasons and to allow firefighters to extinguish hot spots.
It’s the second time in less than a month firefighters were called to a fire at the building.
Deveau says the cause is under investigation.
