Provincial volunteer of the year winners are being formally recognized today.
The Town of Yarmouth’s Volunteer of the Year is Tim MacKinnon.
The volunteer firefighter is known for his incredible Halloween display next to the cemetery on Parade Street.
But lately, he’s been picking up a lot of garbage, helping to keep his community clean.
He says it feels good to be recognized.
“I been picking up garbage for the last couple of months, and I’ve picked up 190 bags around the streets and ditches of the town.”
He says he took 32 bags of garbage off of the Maud Lewis trail.
He says he logged nearly 300 hours picking up garbage over the last few months, and he hopes it inspires others to help their community.
