The Municipality of Barrington has named Nancy Quinlan as Volunteer of the Year.
In a statement, the municipality says Quinlan is being recognized for her initiative and selfless service in keeping Barrington clean.
The native of Cape Sable Island is out in the community cleaning up garbage along roadways everyday.
She says she’s honoured to receive the award, but there’s been one disheartening thing about cleaning.
“I’ve picked up 125 masks, it makes me feel bad when I have to pick those up. I wear my gloves and I have my pick up stick though, so I’m safe.”
She says the community has been very kind, and often people stop to buy her coffee and meals while she’s cleaning.
“I clean up where I live around the Causeway, and at most of the restaurants. I’m here and there everywhere. If I see it, I clean it.”
Quinlan will be presented with the award officially on Monday.
