An Alberta doctor, who once practiced in Yarmouth passed away last week of complications from COVID-19.
Media outlets in Lethbridge reported last week that Dr. Wayne John Edwards became the seventh healthcare worker in the province to die of the illness.
Dr. Edwards migrated to Yarmouth in 1995 from Trinidad, before leaving for Lethbridge in 2003.
Yarmouth town councillor Heather Hatfield worked with him at the Yarmouth hospital during that time.
She says he was always very kind to his patients and colleagues.
“He was absolutely amazing to work with. Always there for you and always respectful. He was one of the group, and fit in no matter where he went.”
Hatfield says she was extremely saddened to hear the news, and it puts a human face on the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Edwards was 66 years old. He left behind a wife and two sons.
