Junior C hockey in Southwestern Nova Scotia could be revived later this year.
Tryouts are being held at Mariners Centre this Friday.
Organizer Andrew Holland says they have 30 skaters and three goaltenders signed up.
He says the team would be looking to start play in the fall.
“There’s a lot of young men here that still want to play high level hockey, especially after they’ve finished high school hockey. The closest thing for them is Junior B in Liverpool.”
Tryouts are for players born in 2001 or later, and they’re looking at creating one team to represent the Southwest region.
Holland says most games would be played out of Barrington, but the team would rotate to different arenas in the region.
He says he’s been in contact with the Nova Scotia Regional Junior Hockey League about entry for next season.
“I’ve talked to the President, he’s already started talking with other teams. Everything seems to be looking good so far.”
There hasn’t been Junior C hockey in this area since 2015, when the Clare Lions and Barrington Ice Dogs took a leave of absence from the Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League.
