A busy morning for Yarmouth firefighers.
Two abandoned homes caught fire, the first on Highway 3 in Pleasant Lake just before 5 a.m.
Acting fire chief of the Yarmouth fire department Mike Deveau says the building was fully involved in flames.
“We did a quick search of the property around the building, and then we began setting up for basic fire attack. Of course, when the building is fully involved you can’t make any entry.”
Deveau says crews extinguished the flames, and they were just wrapping up at the scene when another call came in for a structure fire on Highway 1 in Wellington around 7 a.m.
He says the fire was knocked down after a couple of hours, and the building had to be excavated.
The Lake Vaughn and Eel Brook volunteer departments assisted at both scenes.
Deveau says they’re working with the Fire Marshall’s office and the RCMP on an investigation into the cause of the fires.
Traffic is now flowing in both areas, Highway 1 had been closed for about two hours this morning.
