A strategic plan for Mariners Centre has been approved by the three local municipal units.
The plan from the Mariners Centre Board lists a number of priorities for the next three to five years, one of them being facility expansion.
It says an aquatic and fitness centre, and other recreation opportunities are needed, as well as creating a campus style community hub.
Mariners Centre CEO Dorgam Hideib says currently, the facility doesn’t meet the needs of the community.
“Decisions we make today and how we organize what we do matter, so that if we’re cutting the ribbon on a new facility years down the road, we’re hitting the ground running.”
Hideib says they’re also looking at their current operations.
“Including programming and other services that we can host within our current walls. We have the space. That is also part of our practical efforts around expansion.”
Other strategic priorities for the facility include customer experience, excellence in governance, engagement and culture, including maximizing the use of its spaces.
The Mariners Centre will also operate and develop a budget for 275 Main Street to open as a ‘bridge facility’ until expansion can take place.
A full interview with Dorgam Hideib will air on the Weekender this Sunday morning.
