No change for tax rates in the Municipality of Shelburne.
Last week, council approved the residential rate at $1.26 per $100 of assessment, and the commercial rate at $1.82 per $100 of assessment.
The interest rate for overdue accounts is also maintained at ten percent, a rate that was reduced last year by four percent due to the pandemic.
The municipality’s operating budget was approved, at over $7.5 million.
Warden Penny Smith says they will continue to maintain and improve services.
“And our strong financial position enables us to move ahead with projects, while ensuring we have the resources to address any unforeseen issues. I think that’s key.”
Smith says the municipality will focus on the design and construction of a new administrative building as a priority this year.
“Plans are now underway to finalize a design to go out to tender. The federal government has secured space in the new building. The province has advised that they wish for their office to remain at the current location at this time. We are working with them to secure a new lease agreement.”
She says development of a accessibility plan for Eastern Shelburne County, health care and economic development are also strategic priorities.
