The province recently expanded access to dialysis for Digby County residents.
A six-station unit opened at Digby General Hospital on March 15th.
Health and Wellness Minister Zach Churchill says providing closer access to dialysis is a top priority for government.
“It’s going to help people who used to have to travel to Yarmouth from anywhere between Meteghan and Bridgetown to access dialysis much more quickly. This will relieve some of the pressure on the Yarmouth dialysis units as well.”
In the legislature last week, Argyle-Barrington MLA Colton LeBlanc questioned Churchill on dialysis needs for Barrington residents.
Churchill says for areas without a critical mass of patients, in-home dialysis services are available.
Today, the province also opened a 12-station unit at the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, replacing a six-unit station in Berwick.
