The Town of Yarmouth is over-populated with deer.
While cute, the animals can carry Lyme disease and cause accidents on the road.
Yarmouth town council are very concerned, and Mayor Pam Mood is voicing her frustrations.
She says the Department of Natural Resources presented to council on the issue a few years ago.
“They actually asked us to count deer pellets to help track the deer population. Ridiculous, on every level in a town. We aren’t getting any satisfaction at that level, so we’ll have to go up the chain.”
The town plans to speak with the caucus chair of the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities on the issue.
Mood says every town in the province is having the same issue, but they’ve been told Natural Resources can’t cross town lines.
Mood says if the deer were just a nuisance that’s one thing, but it’s about health and safety first.
