I did a Rewind show last week all about band names. I have this book full of them and the story behind how they got their names. I find it very interesting. Some names names are so ingrained in pop culture you forget how funny the name actually sounds by itself. Like Smashing Pumpkins or Chumbawamba or even Buffalo Springfield! Those are very ridiculous names but because we’ve heard them so much we kind of just get used to them.
In terms of the best band name I would have to say my personal favorite would be the Tragically Hip! Not too silly and very original! They were so hip it was tragic! Now that’s a band name. I also find it kind of lazy when bands just use the lead singers name. Like Ben Holmes and Microphones. That does not necessarily mean the band is bad but I just find it kind of lazy in terms of naming the group.
I have kind of always wanted to be in a band! Maybe I will be someday. I like to think of different band names that would be cool and usually come up with silly one like “The Come From Awayers” or “The Bears” it’s fun to do though.
