The Western Branch of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia could re-open this summer.
That’s what the province would like to see for the building on Main Street in Yarmouth.
It’s been closed for over a year, when smoke from the ventilation system caused damage.
Yarmouth Liberal MLA Zach Churchill says the government has directed the Art Gallery Board to re-open as soon as possible.
Repairs are not quite finished, but he says the Art Gallery has funding to complete them.
Churchill says he’s heard from artists and the community on the issue.
“They were concerned when the building wasn’t opening back up, and were concerned about a re-opening date of Spring, 2022. I’ve heard really positive feedback that we’re going to work to get the Art Gallery open sooner.”
Churchill calls the building an anchor to downtown Yarmouth.
