Nova Scotia Premier Iain Rankin answered questions on the upcoming provincial budget last night.
He was joined by Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood on a Facebook live event.
Before taking submitted questions, Mayor Mood asked the Premier to talk about the importance of transportation in Southwestern Nova Scotia.
He mentioned the connection to the New England market with the CAT ferry.
“Our government has supported the ferry, and it’s not running this year because of the restrictions at our border with the United States, similar to the challenges we’re having at our international airport.”
Premier Rankin says he’s eager to see that service back in place, as it will take time to build the market back up.
“Certainly in my visits to Yarmouth, I’ve witnessed first hand the investments that companies were putting in, in anticipation of the visitors coming back with restaurants and the expansion of hotels and motels.”
The CAT, operated by Bay Ferries, hasn’t sailed since the 2018 season due to the pandemic and construction of the terminal in Bar Harbor, Maine.
