It’s been two weeks since Zack Lefave has gone missing, but volunteers aren’t about to give up their quest to find the Hebron man.
A command centre in Upper Wedgeport is still a base of operations for a community-based search.
On Wednesday, a team of specialized search dogs were combing the area where Lefave was last seen.
There were also volunteer community grid searchers on foot, as well as drones surveying by air.
Search liaison Victoria Samson says they can always use more supports.
“The command centre is at 37 Robert Boudreau Crescent, what’s known as ‘Dirt Road’ on a lot of maps,” she began. “All the information is on the facebook group ‘Bring Zack Lefave Home‘ as well,” she noted. “They can come to the command centre, we’ll set them up with the GPS app we have. You have to come in and sign in so we can have your information so you can have access to the grids. Then we can put you on a grid and get you out searching.”
Samson says they’re hoping that more drone operators can join the search; a non-profit organization called Wings of Mercy is assisting with that aspect.
She notes that they’re in constant contact with Lefave’s family, and the search will continue as long as necessary.
So far, crews have covered 46 five-acre grids and individuals have searched other locations for hours as well.
There have been volunteers searching every day, with the number of searchers increasing on weekends.
Lefave, who was 20 at the time of his disappearance but turned 21 on January 3rd, was last seen walking on Highway 334 in Plymouth a little after midnight of New Year’s Day.
He was last seen wearing a yellow and blue plaid shirt and shorts.
