The province’s Progressive Conservative party is a step closer to potentially learning details of a contract related to The Cat ferry.
The Supreme Court of Nova Scotia on Thursday will hear the case between PC Leader Tim Houston and the Department of Transportation and Bay Ferries.
Houston says the PC party supports the ferry link – evidenced by the fact that the PCs are the only party that hasn’t experienced service disruptions and outright cancellations.
“Because we value the link, we want to make sure that there’s an arrangement in place, a contract in place, that promotes the link,” he explained. “In this case, I believe the contract will probably show – well, history has shown now that the operator gets paid whether or not they operate a ferry.”
Houston has been pushing for details of the management fees paid to Bay Ferries to operate the Yarmouth to Maine link, which hasn’t sailed the past two summers.
The Supreme Court ruled in favour of the Progressive Conservative Caucus in November 2019, which gave the green light to a lawsuit to open the financial books on The Cat ferry will proceed.
