The new council for the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth was sworn in on Wednesday night.
District 1 councilor John Cunningham was elected warden of the new council.
Cunningham served as Deputy Warden during the previous council.
He says he’s looking forward to getting to work with a strong council.
“I’m very excited,” he said. “We have a mix of older councilors like myself and the Deputy Warden Trevor Cunningham, and also we have people with some experience from the previous term…and two new councilors this term.”
He detailed some of his priorities for the new council.
“My priorities, personal priorities for this time, is for the Mariners Centre expansion and the YMCA bridge and stuff like that but those are my personal priorities,” he explained. “Council still has to sit down and decide if those are going to be the three major priorities that we move forward.”
In addition to Cunningham being named Warden, District 5 councilor Trevor Cunningham was elected Deputy Warden.
He also believes that work on the Mariners Centre is one of the new councils top priorities.
