A rental housing development in West Pubnico aimed at the 55+ crowd continues to make headway.
Owner Monique d’Eon says concept for The Branches Pocket Community on Frank’s Road began two years ago.
The community takes its name from how each lane/driveway leading to the units will be named after a tree.
The first phase of the development will see ten units facing inward around a common courtyard.
The Municipality of the District of Argyle gave approval for up to thirty units for the site.
Site preparation is underway but the project hit a little snag when excavators recently hit bedrock, though it’s hoped that excavation can continue in the next couple of weeks.
“The buildings have been built, they were finished in July,” she explained. “They are currently sitting in a yard at Prestige Homes in New Brunswick. As soon as the spots for each duplex are set, we’ll get them delivered on-site.”
d’Eon noted that surprisingly, COVID-19 was not the source of any delays.
“When the buildings were being built, there were no cases in New Brunswick at the time, so the plant was able to continue to operate without any major issues,” she explained. “They already had all of our building materials purchased and on-site ready to go.”
d’Eon says there has been lots of interest in the development, and she’s hoping that the buildings will be on-site before the winter hits.
She says part of the goal is to provide housing that allows total independent living while not having the worries of home ownership like upkeep and repairs.
The pocket community concept also allows for nurturing social relationships, and participating in activities like gardening or playing cards together.
